stock cam with 3000 stall

Hey Everyone,

I did a search and couldn't seem to find what I was looking for. My Converter has shit the bed and I don't really want to waste money putting a stock one back in. So My question is will a 2800-3000 stall converter suck with a stock cam. I plan on camming the truck soon but currently only have longtube headers, full 3" single exhaust without cats and an intake.
Oh ya also will I be able to drive for a while with the new converter without a tune, no tuners up here in Northern B.C Canada.
Thanks a lot

I have a 3200 stall in mine, stock cam and it pulls great.
Your gonna have to adjust the torque converter clutch lockup setting with the new stall but yeah you can still drive it

what gears do you have? i didnt like the feeling of my 3200 on stock 3.23 gears, after the gear swap it rocked on either the stock cam and my tsp one

I just installed a my 2800 about a month ago. once i got used to it i like it. flashes up and breaks the tires loose in first and chips 1-2 shift. im runnin a 295/50/20. i havent retuned for the converter yet but it def. needs it. mileage will suffer some. i found out that driving with it in tow/haul mode helps with the converter lockup issues until its retuned.

I just put a 2800 in mine with a stock cam. Its nice when you punch it but does stall up a it driving around from red light to red light. But like 06Sierra said gears will make a difference and I have 2.73! Gonna be changing those to 3.73 soon and should do much better without the load of the 2.73 on it. Also I want to tune for converter lockup to be better.

It's a Z71 so Im pretty sure it has 3.73's.

Yea go for the stall converter... Some company's converters are loser than others so you might give them a call before you order.

I put a 3700 stall in my truck with the stock cam. you can drive it around on the stock cam just fine.
