Default Steering Wobble-Fixed

Regardless of what I was told about the steering shaft lube defect fixed for 2005 GMC/Chevy trucks, GM has issued a "kit" to fix the issue for the non-existant issue!
They pulled the steering shaft, and did whatever they did, but now my truck steering feels like it should, not like some Yugo!

Yeah, I need to get my steering wheel wobble fixed too. It's really annoying.

Yea, the lube kit cures the knocking you get in the steering wheel...I've done mine once already after having the steering shaft replaced under warranty. So far it's been a few years and it's stayed quiet...I think I'm just starting to to get an occasional knock from time to time. PN for the lube kit is 26098419. It costs anywhere from about $8.50 to $12.00, depending on where you go and what kind of a discount you can get.

I bought a few kits to keep "in stock". When I did my friend's truck a few weeks back, his was knocking real bad, and I actually used 2 kits to fix him up.

It's real simple...it comes with a syringe with grease, and a plug to cork off the end of the steering shaft. Basically, you reomove the intermediate steering shaft (one bolt under the dash, one under the hood), remove a clip from one end of the shaft and squeeze the grease into it. Then you install the rubber "cork" and work the shaft in and out a few times to spread the grease on the splines. After that, it's just matter of removing the cork, re-installing the clip, and bolting the shaft back in. Takes about 15 minutes at an easy pace...piece of cake.

What it actually does is to fill the clearance between the two splined parts of the intermediate shaft with grease, so the shaft has less play and doesn't bang against itself.

this sounds like a ford problem! we shouldnt have this on our trucks. I had my shaft completely replaced, but my friend went in and they wont replace them any more, they just greased it, at least it's documented.

The sad part is that I complained about it over two months ago and was told there was no issue.....then yesterday there was a 'fix'!

Oh well, at least it's better now!
