Speed Engineering 4l80e Swap
#1
Has anyone used the Speed Engineering 4l80e swap kit? I am thinking about ordering one very soon. I just like the fact that everything is included in the kit. I think im going to try to order the kit without their crossmember cause ive heard some negatives about it. I know a great fabricator who can do that for free for me.
How is the quality of the trans that they provide in the kit? Also it looks like they provide the crank spacer and bolts in their kit, but they im going to be buying one of the precision converters and it says you dont need the spacer so I guess I can get my money back on that too.

I ordered the conversion from Speed Engineering and had a few problems with it (drivelines were the wrong length, sent me the wrong flexplate, crossmember was not spaced properly from the x-fer case). I had to have some modifications done here locally but SE stepped up and took care of me, reimbursed me for the added expense and everything. Great customer service.
Didn't buy the trans from them, so I can't speak to that.

Alright well my truck is 2wd so I will only need a single drive shaft, and no transfer case problems to worry about either.
Im gonna call them tommorow and see whats up.

Try shopping around for a used trannny. You can get it much cheaper used. A bone stock one will take more abuse than a fully built 4l60e. I got a used one with 25k miles on it and have never had a problem. Its stock and has many 1.6x 60' and 11 sec passes. Its a daily driver also. 25-30k miles a year.

Im just so confused about what additional parts other than the converter and tranny ill need.
I keep hearing mixed opinions on what it takes to do the install. Can we start a list of exactly what will be needed for me to complete this install. I plan to do it in one day, and have access to a lift and plenty of tools, i just need to make sure all the parts are there and they are the correct ones for me.
This will all be installed on a 06 Silverado Crew Cab 1500.

2 parts to wiring harness (1 for second VSS, one for round connector), dipstick tube, new crossmember, new converter, new flexplate and/or crank spacer, fluid line extensions, new linkage bracket, converter dust shield (if your trans doesn't come with one)

Its seems like if I order the kit from speed eng, it might be cheaper than just ordering a trans alone from FLT. Also, flt requires a core which I wont have since I wont have an 80 to send back, speed eng doesnt require a core charge.
