Question Shortening my rear end ?'s...Getting rid of leafs???

I'm shortening my rear end 3" on each side. Main reason is because I'm getting Moser axles from Bob over at Exotic Performance and I'm wanting to shorten it for just a little extra strength. I have a local place here that shortens rear ends all of the time. My question is what to do about the leaf springs. Where I'm wanting to come in will be really close to the leafs. Does anyone have any pics of their setups with out leafs? I'm either doing a torque arm or a ladder depending on how much room I have due to being lowered and exhaust.

I assume you want to keep the bars outboard of the frame. I would do a 4-link setup, then just run a crossmember out back and run coilovers. Or do you plan on running air ride? You'll have to package everything perfectly to fit it all with 3" off each side, but you can for sure do it.

What do you mean shorten it for strength? Just less tubing to bend? I wouldn't make that a reason to shorten it, you'll have to order custom wheels to make up for the width change

Old days we use to box the back half and mount the springs inboard.

I am either going to back half or 4 link. The shorter the axles the stronger they can be. And actually its only going to be 2 1/2" on the shortening. And no air ride. This will mostly a street/strip truck so I'll want it dependable as possible.

Are you narrowing the stock 10 bolt? The 3rd member might not hold up............
You might need to get rid of the gas tank for clearance with a 4 bar also.
This is going to be my winter project but a narrowed Moser 12 bolt.

Yes the stock 10 bolt. And I'm think the 60e might go before the 3rd member. And yes the gas tank will be relocated to the bed.

I had the in mind before.. Def been done, I think if you did that, along with good shocks and cal tracs you hook just as good as a ladder bar.. Other wise you need to do a 4 link set up... I am with the rest no point to shorten it for strength.. Just buy a set of axles stock length from moser, there like 2xx for them.... You do realize the stock axles are good for 10's ????

What about some long bars. I have just heard of too many people blowing out theirs. I know that when these things usually happen to me, they happen at the absolute wrong time. Does anyone know the actual hp rating for these?

Stock axles?? Duno the rating but plenty of guys are going low 11's deep into the 10's with them. Have you ever seen one?? They are the size of a 9 inch ford axle...
