Default Shocks for 02 Silverado w/4" rear drop?

The toxic shocks I have don't handle the 400 to 500 lbs of load I rountinely carry in the bed and I need better shocks.

I tried the Eldlebrock IAS shocks and they don't seem right. They are about 3" longer than the Toxic shocks I have and at about 16" in the closed postion they are almost exactly the same length as the stock Silverado shocks. Both of these facts indicate to me that they would bottom out as soon as the hoist is lowered. No travel. But, the part number is what Edelbrock recommends for the 4" drop.

Be that as it may.... I need a recommendation for a strong shock with a 4" drop. What are you guys running? What do you suggest/recommend? I'd appreciate a part number if it's not asking tooooo much. Thanks.

You tried a shock extender with those Edelbrocks? You should be able to run a stock length shock with the extenders.

Shock extender? Never heard of such an animal. Bolt on? Weld on? Which end? Where can I get them? Not for sale at Summit or Jegs or Stylin... as far as I can see. Help.

McGaughy's makes them as well. I think you can order from them but I'm not sure.

Thanks for the help boys. Edelbrock responded to my email and admitted that their recommended shock might require an extender. I decided to go with the Belltech Nitro Active shock. The stock shock is 16" compressed and the Nitro Active came in a couple different lengths... 14.38 and 11.63. I decided, since I carry about 400 lbs of stuff in the bed of the truck, that the 11.63 would be the best for me. Summit didn't have it in stock but Stylin did. Hope it works and if it doesn't then I'll resurrect this thread.
