rollerizing my 4l80e
#1
just got my Jakes performance roller forward hub and roller bearing with shims for the rear of the case. The hub is freakin sweet and self explanatory, just a little confused on if the shims or the bearing go in first in the rear of the case. I would imagine the shims ride on the case and the bearing on the output shaft. i am also assuming the case saver be left out. also does the outer lip of the bearing face up or down. thanks guys

Sorry I saw your email. Just getting done with an emergency out of town customer rebuild and install to get him back on the road.
Shim goes in case first, bblack side of bearing down.
By case saver do you mean a antiwalk bushing? You can machine it down so it has a very small lip and it will work. We use a TH400 bushing in the rear of the 4L80E case. It's slightly wider so gives plenty of space to locate the bearing and more support for the output shaft.
You can use the 4L80E pump bushing as well. Same ID and OD and wider than stock 4L80E case bushing.

No problem at all man! I figured you were partying at south padre for spring break, LOL. Sorry to blow up your inbox and thanks for all the help as I am most definatly a novice. As for the case saver I meant the 3 pronged thrust washer that goes on the case. I put a regular 4l80 case bushing in but I'll replace it with a400 bushing. I also forgot to loctite it.

Ok so I am stuck at the direct and forward clutch packs. I know the forward takes the .077 steels and the direct takes the .090 but I do not have ANY clearance on either. Again it's a '94 unit. The only thing I can think of is the steel pistons I put in aren't interchangeable.

I think I'm gonna replace the overdrive planet, one of the pinions if harder to spin than the rest. My question is if I replace the planet should I replace the overrun hub to the 01 and newer roller clutch design? Is it worth it?
