Rear end clicking, clunking chattering. Pinion preload

I jacked the rear tires off of the ground then rotated the tires back and forth. It seems like there is a crap load of play in there. Is that just the way tru tracs work or is it possible the pinion is too loose?

A little play is normal with a tru trac. The first time noticing that sucks, but they are all like that. Can you get a video of the excess play you are talking about?
I take it you installed your own gears..? Did you check the backlash and the mesh pattern? I have to disagree with the previous poster, 3 thousandths is a bit tight. Remember fluid has to get in between the gears...

Yes I did my own gears all within spec. I checked backlash and mesh patterns...they were all good. Now that I put this new yoke on something is definately wrong. Also I forgot to mention there is a clunk when I shift from park to any drive gear or when i shift from d321 to r or vice versa.
Yeah isn't it around 6-8 thousandths?
I'll try to get a video tomorrow after I pick it up from the muffler shop.
One more thing I forgot to mention...My pinion only has about 2 threads past the nut. I'm wondering if the IEDLS yoke is thicker than stock? Anybody have pics of a Inland Empire Driveline Services yoke on a 10 bolt?

the pattern matched up with suggested gear patters from Yukon gear's website I couldn't find any gear patterns for my gears (G2, 4wheelparts brand). As for the backlash, I can't remember exactly but when i set it up it was around the max. Is it possible for the backlash to change if the pinion depth is changed? THis is the only swap Iv'e done so I don't know much.

Yes, pinion depth along with carrier position determine backlash. Change the pinion depth and backlash will definitely change too. But you didn't change anything about the pinion depth after you ran the pattern, right?

No. I am assuming that the pinion depth could've been changed due to the removal of the stock yoke and the installation of the new yoke. Would the r&r of the yoke change pinion depth if I indeed did overcrush the crush sleeve or not tighten the pinion nut enough? BTW thanks for the quick replies.
