Ya the game plan at this point is to swap an 80E in and then an AWD transfer case. I've got a P1 procharger to put in my 5.3. I think a <hopefully> bulletproof AWD supercharged standard cab should be fun. Later on down the road I'd like to build a 6 liter, but for now I'm hoping to make 450hp to the wheels. We'll see!

Thanks for the help fellas!

Any cracks in the case....if he will let you take the pan off look for any shavings or chunks in there.

Alright I'll ask him. I Plan on installing a shift kit. Do you think I should attempt to rebuild it or just install it and run it until failure? He claims it's been rebuilt, but he doesn't know how many miles are on it.

Thanks for the advice, I really appreciate it.

The guy also has the transfer case that was mated to the 4L80E. He is trying to sell it. I'm not interested in it because I want to go AWD eventually. He does have the 3/4 ton drive lines though.

Should I try to get the drive lines?

I'm not sure if I can use the front drive line or not.

I am the proud owner of a 4L80E!! I checked the housing for cracks and dropped the pan. The fluid was clear and there was minimal wear in the pan. The thing looks brand new!!

The trans was in a 1999 Surburban behind a bigblock. An old couple owned it and towed a boat. They T-boned a jeep. This guy bought it cheap with the intention of swapping everything into a 71 chevy pickup.

The Surburban a had 180K on it. The trans was way clean by comparison to the engine and transfercase! It doesn't look like it has many miles on it at all! Nor did it appear to be cleaned up or anything.

I've got the torque converter. I've never seen one that has 6 bolts before.

How do I adapt that to my 5.3?

What is the stall of a stock 4L80E torque converter?

Thanks fellas!

You have to swap to a 6L/80e flexplate and spacer. Or if you want a stall converter, now would be a good time and get a hybrid converter that will bolt to your 3 hole flexplate.

Okay cool. Thanks!

Do they make a dual bolt pattern stall converter? In case I go with a 6.0 in the future.

I have to research what stall to use with a procharger and how bad it effects gas mileage.

Thanks for the advice.

No need for a dual pattern converter, but they do make them. If you get a converter to mate the 80E to your 5.3 and you want to swap to a 6.0, just swap the 5.3 flexplate on to the 6.0 and you'll be golden.

Prochargers like a lot of stall, or so i've heard...
