putting in 4.10's and need advice
#1
I bought a set of 4.10 gears new and I want to put them in myself I have a dial gauge and I bought a complete install kit. Just wondering if there is a write up on this, I can't seem to find it. Also What are you guys doing for break in on new gears?

One of our members, rubrhammer, did a great write up of his gear swap, here's the link

break in period has nothing to do with being legal, or am I missing something? I'm just saying to give your new 4.10's a good break-in period. We went by 500 miles, and then checked/refilled the fluid.

I was just saying my truck has not seen more than a 5 mile trip on the road in 2 years. I dont even have mufflers on it, Just headers and turn downs. I have been using this truck only at the strip. I guess I can do 500 miles on jack stands

Yeah, it was a little easier for me b/c mine is my DD....

You want to go through 500 miles at various driving speeds, keeping it under 55 mph I believe. Try to get as many heat up/cool down cycles as possible. Some folks think that the break in isn't necessary, but if you're going to spend the coin on the gears, and take the time that it takes to install them, why take a chance?
