Default problem/noise when switching from 4wd to 2wd

my truck is having an issue with the front end. when i shift it from 4wd to 2wd it will make a whining/grinding noise, then after about 15sec or so, it will make a banging sound, and then its fine. it does this while sitting still, as well as rolling. It feels like its binding slightly, until it "pops" out of 4wd.

would this be the 4wd actuator in the front end going bad?

truck is a 2010 4.8 4wd, with the floor shifter for the t-case.

front axle/differential

it acts almost the same shifting out of 4wd with the whole truck on jack stands, whether i'm holding the brake pedal, or letting the wheels spin.

it doesn't take as long to disengage, but it still makes the noise, and then there is a "thump" from the front axle/diff
