my buddy had a RCSB 4.3 silverado 2wd..
They got to playing in a field and he ended up getting stuck.. So he held the gas to the floor, when it hit the rev limiter in reverse he just dropped it into drive with the gas pedal still to the floor, then back into reverse, back to drive..
I have no idea how it lived thru that.

It wouldnt leave the limiter, because the limiter goes from the stock 5600rpm, down to 1000rpm. So it would be on the limiter the whole time so long as he kept his foot stuffed.
But it sounds like your saying that the engine stayed at 5600rpm the whole time and the trans shifted away.
That is just so horrible on the trans. I had a buddy do the exact same thing in an early 80's Ford with the 351M engine.
He did it in 4wd, thats a LOT of drivetrain that has to change direction. Some popel think thats how you are supposed to "rock" a vehicle. But its simply just the WRONG way to do so.
I once accidentally did a neutral drop with 325/50/15 drag radial on teh back. I was revving in neutral and dropped the trans in gear too early. I cringed. Revs were higher, thank goodness there was no throttle though.

Had another buddy with a 5 speed Jetta that was prone to side stepping the clutch. He went through a trans mount every week. He just got to where he kept a spare one in the trunk.
You just don't ever know what youngsters will do. I do know some foreign cars have some stout trans tho.

yea it stayed at 5600 Hog.. made bad noises and everything!!
but i use to have a 2wd jeep Cherokee 2.5L 5speed.. it would do wicked burnouts!!
But after goin thru 2 driveshafts i had to take it easy till i sold it.. rev limiter and dump the clutch, speed shift into 2nd and right before it hit the rev limiter grab 3rd.. That poor lil 2.5 was stout..
Puked a Ujoint goin back to school after lunch one day and decided i better be easier on it so i wouldnt get stuck 40 miles from home.

Back in the early 70s as I recall some testers in a hot rod magazine had an L88 Vette and did several 5000-6000 rpm neutral drops with a turbo 400 and really beat the poor test car half to death trying to get 10s. They would put out around 625-650 on an engine dyno even though rated at 430 or so. Said it wasn't running all that well when they gave it back (you think)? A lot of stories on Google still.

Had an early 60e come into the shop. guy was doing a burnout and something went wrong. bellhousing snapped and the trans did a 180 under the truck. it broke every damn thing. sadly this was before everyone had camera phones or i would have pics! but that is still a good one for sure! the input drum can come to pieces and cause this. if it was jammed into gear or had a huge rpm change quickly you could certainly blow that sucker to bits.

The ZL-1 all aluminum engine cost over $4000 back in 1969. These engines dynoed between 500-535hp in the Chev dyno lab on Sunoco 260 fuel.
Each engine was blueprinted and assembled by a team of 4-5 people in a special air conditioned, filtered "clean-room". This added greatly to the ZL-1's cost. The engines were then serialized then taken down to the dyno test lab and broken in for 1 hour on the dyno. Oulls were made and no engine left the lab under 500hp.
The ZL-1 made 500-535hp with no attention to detail, and around 600hp with some headwork. When a stock Camaro exhaust was installed, that power dropped down to 275hp. This shows how sensitive the big ZL-1 cam was to backpressure.
The 10B-39 alloy Boron steel 220,000 tensile strength 7/16 boron bolts are still available from GM today. They come Magnafluxed inspected and shiotpeened.p/n 3969864 $7.14 a piece.
The aluminum block that is used in the 2010+ ZL-1 crate engines like the limited 2000 ZL-1 Ramjet are made from the original 1969 ZL-1 molds, with mods for stength and roller cams added. The molds were found in the back of the Winters foundry and they asked GM if they wanted them back or they would be thrown away. The RAmjet ZL-1 makes 510 horses@5750rpm and 493 ft-lb of torque@4250rpm from 454 cubes.
427 copies of the Anniversary 427 were built back in 2008, also the ZZ427 is also available.
