Popping sound when turning

This may be totally off, but I had a problem like this once with my lifted 96 dodge ram. It only popped turning to one direction, but I had step bars mounted on it. One of the bolts of the steps centered out and everytime I turned that direction it would grab the bolt and then pop it loose. I had to cut the bolt off. If you have steps mounted to the frame, its a possibility. Just a thought.

Seems to be the front swaybar links. Superlift is warrantying them for me. Hope thats the end of it.

The CV shaft shouldn't have any play in it. If you want to check the balljionts jack the front wheels up and try to wiggle the tire up and down.

Well, the half shaft itself is pretty stationary it moves in and out a little but no slop up and down. <---- is that okay?


The new swaybar links that came with the lift have grease fittings on them, so I pulled the boot back, and the joints were bone dry on both. The ******** at 4wheelparts who installed it didn't grease them. I greased them up, and the sound is pretty much history, but for good measure I got them to take care of getting me new ones ($60)

I would say CV also I know they are need to be very tight/ NO PLAY AT ALL
just my .02 It could be ther swaybar making the noise but I think if you can move the CV then it is bad also

The CV is designed to move in and out. If you hold the shaft and the end and try to twist it back and fourth there should not be any play. I'm not sure if I explained this clearly.

i have an 02 gmc denali quadrasteer....i had the same problem with the poping...for me it was shattered teeth off of my gears in my rear end and wat you need to get is a rear end case that covers your gears...if your truck is under warrenty it is free and after i did that it went away

Had a similar problem with my 02 RCSB 2wd. All it turned out to be was a dry intermediate shaft on the steering. A little grease to to joint on the shaft and all is well! May not be your problem with what you've described but i'd check that first before getting into the CV's!
