Default pinion bearing

Got my rear end all done. went driving and after 15 miles heard a loud noise, and the diff got hot as ****. Took cover off, no metal in bottom, ring and eaton posi looked fine. took driveline and yoke off too see the bearing and it was destroyed. Put too much preload on the pinion bearing. Only damage was this in the picture, debating on whether to run it with a new bearing or get a new ring and pinion...what are your thoughts?

You could try and clean it up with emery cloth but just from the looks of it, I would not install a new bearing/race with that pinion.

yup i am on the fence about it as well. I thought about maybe selling it for half what I paid to someone that wants to chance it. That way paying for a new ring and pinion wont be as bad.

It looks like the spline might even be compromised.

I would replace it.

I ended up ordering a new ring and pinion today from rons. taking it to a reputable mechanic to do this time instead of a buddys words saying he can do it.
