Can I just reuse the stock pan gasket? It looked like it was in good condition.

You should be able to reuse the pan gasket. I have had mine off 4 times and I am still running the stock gasket. Do not over tighten the bolts. Use a torque wrench to 9 lb/ft. I would double check the torque setting as I may have it wrong.

Damn, I just tightened those things on pretty tight last night with a socket wrench...didn't think it mattered.

It's most likely going to leak now lol. I've made the same mistake once on an old Torqueflite I had owned. Thing leaked like a sieve. Nice score on the trans though. An 80E swap has been looking a lot more economical and practical to me lately. I'm just concerned that the complications involved with the swap on a 4wd would negate the pro's. Nothing like peace of mind when you're beating on a trans though.

The stock gasket on a 4l80e is like the gaskets on these motors. Rubber covered aluminum. Should be reusable unlike cork or composite gaskets you get with some filter kits, you should be fine to reuse it.

4wd is definitely much more complicated and costly and in that case I would go with the fully built 60.

That's weird about the name, I wonder if "4L80-E" stopped being cast into the cases so the same cases could be used for both the 4L80-E and the 4L85-E.
This one's a 2000 model year:

I also thought it was weird James. According to Wilde, what I have should be a 4l85e, but I'm not sure that's correct. When I was searching on car-part there were 2 RPO's for the transmissions, one was MT1 which I believe is the 80e and the other was something like MN8 which I believe is the 85e. I'm pretty sure the HD trucks got MT1.

Regarding your extension on the rear tranny cooler line, did you buy that from PATC? It looks exactly like the one they sell. I was wondering if this would work to extend my rear cooler line?
