Default New Transmission?

This is my first post on here and also my frist GM truck to own. Ive had a lot of different vehicles over the years all of which have been focused more on performance than anything else however, ive never owned an automatic. Im really lost as to what i should do with my transmission. I have a 2008 gmc sierra with the 4.8 and have all the usuall bolt ons and plan to be going with a cam setup in the very near future and possibly spraying it too. My question is should I even bother trying to beef up my stock tranny or just go ahead and save myself the trouble and buy one already set up to handle the horsepower. If my stock tranny is worth trying to save what parts need to be thrown at it and what are the costs roughly? I really appreciate any helpful responses. Thanks in advance.

how my power do you plan to be puttin to the pavement by the time your all done?
if you just have intake/exhaust bolt-ons and a cam, the 4l60e should be fine, just might have to get a stall conv; depending on the size cam you get.

If you're just doing the usual mods, bolt ons and cam with a little spray, I'd put a shift kit, servos, and big cooler on the stocker and run it until it pops. Seems these transmissions are hit or miss, some guys get lucky and do 6.0 swaps and get a 100k out of their stock 60E, and others just do a mild cam and tune with no torque management and their trans takes a **** at 59.6k, on Nov 22 2008, while cruising down the highway with their 2 year old daughter asleep in the child seat next to them...oh wait, did I give too much info there? That's exactly what happened to me!

*EDIT* Then when the trans does take a dump, give FLT a call and get yourself a stout Level7 65E

My tranny ran fine with the cam, shift kit, intake, headers, etc. Then I threw a supercharger on it, and it got pissed at me... I think it'll be fine until you go FI. I would recommend a shift kit, and tc if you throw a cam on. Like said above..
