New Gears

New Gears
Hey guys I'm very new to this game. Please help. I re-geared my 4.8 Silverado to the exact ratio it was from factory. SMH . What bothers me is that why wouldn't the installer tell me. I installed a true trac at same time. So basically 3.73 gears and a Detroit true trac. I have a 20" ss wheel wrapped on a 275/60/20 BFG Rugged Terrain. I realize I messed up as I brought parts. Before I go back tomorrow you guys think I should just suck it up or should I drop the cash and get 4.10 gears. I feel like I wasted 300 bux . I wanted more pick up. I feel like when they installed headers I got a lag from the rear. Help please . Thanks in advance

I doubt the installer even looked at what gears you had in the truck, probably just figured you were swapping to 3.73s.
As far as swapping gears again I think it's crazy to have them redo the gears again to go from 3.73s > 4.10s unless they won't charge you **** to do it again. If you're set on re-doing the gears though at least jump up to 4.30s being as you're running a 33" tall tire with 40lbs wheels.
If it were me I'd invest the money in a aftermarket torque converter instead, assuming you don't already have one.

No I don't have a Torque Converter. I want the pick up . 4.30 s ? Yikes never have I heard that one. I guess I was leaning on that 4.10 cause I do drive a bit on freeway. I know my tire is huge . I'm gonna see what the answer is tomorrow . He charged me 200 to install gears and true trac . They were recommended by the local 4 wheel part store . Hopefully they can help without screwing me over . Nice truck btw . Thanks for your help. What does a torque converter do ?if you don't mind

The toroque converter will engauged later at wot meaning you will be higher in the powerband when you hit the throttle. The swap from 3.73 to 4.10 is a bit small. 4.30 would be a great option even with highway miles. Those 33's are dang tall with those heavy wheels. Only $200 installed is a great price. I have been quoted well over 4-500 by several people.

If you put the numbers in to a gear and tire calculator 4.10s is right about where you want to be to retain factory RPMs. However you're setup is also a lot heavier than the typical OEM 30.5" tall tire on a 16" or 17" rim... hence the reason I recommended jumping up to 4.30s if you're going to do the swap again.
That being said, throw a Circle D 2600-2800 converter in there and that will put a smile on your face
