Need help with installing cal tracks on gmc Sierra
#2
This is all done easiest with the leaf pack out of the truck, in my experience.
The steel sleeve on the outer perimeter of the bushing curls around the spring eye. I use an air chisel to roll that edge toward the center of the bushing. After that, I use a press to remove the stock bushing, and install the new bushing. A ball joint press may work, but I've never tried it.
I've also read about guys that use a small drill bit to drill several small holes thru the stock rubber, then press it out. Then they have to cut out the steel sleeve. Others have posts up about burning out the rubber, then cutting out the sleeve. This takes a long time, and smells like ***.
I'm sure there are other methods. The press is the easiest IMHO.
