Need G80 differential help. Metal chunks found.

Alright so I was driving home last night and on the last turn before my house my truck makes this loud clunking noise and it felt like someone bumped into me. My brother heard it and he was in the car behind me. I drove it around the block a few times and it did it on slow turns and hard acceleration. When you're not doing those things it drives fine. It sounded like it came from the rear end so I pulled the cover off and I found metal shaving and gear chunks laying on the bottom. I'm new to G80's and rear ends so cut me some slack. 04 gmc sierra 1500 5.3 with 3.73 G80. It looks like only one of the gears is torn up. I'm not sure what to do or what to replace. I'll get some pics up as soon as possible.

You'll get alot of suggestions to get a tru-trac...does the truck have any mods? If your stock and want to stay that way and also on a budget a used g80 might suit you well. Also your pic is way small, I couldnt really see anything in that pic.

I have CAI, Magnaflow cats and Spintech exhaust. Nothing crazy. Oh and I have 20" wheels and a 3/4 drop. It drives fine with the exception of the occasional clunk while turning. https://www.performancetrucks.net/fo...oto-1-6957.jpg

I don't know jack about rear ends either but that looks really expensive. If it were me I wouldn't go too far f om home.

Well you will need to replace it either with a stock unit which go for $100-150 on here, or step up to a Truetrac or Valuetrac.

I would replace all the bearings in that rear end. Metal has now gone through them.

i have a g80 and 4.10 gear set that id sell cheap if youre interested. PM me

Alright well I am a college senior only working part time so think more budget than best one out there. Given that which of the four I gave links for would be best? My good friend is a mechanic at a trans shop so he's gonna install it for me for cheap. I'd like to spend less than $400 on the part but upgrade from the shitty g80.

You may need a new ring and pinion judging by the bomb. So you'll need a master rebuild kit, gears and a locker. Ron's is where i'd go imho. Best prices on those parts that ive found. He is in the sponsor section
