Default My turn to cry

About a month ago my converter started locking loosely, that is, it was locking but I could 'push' tough it easy. I bought a new converter and just had it swapped. When I dropped off he truck it started shifting very firm, like the line pressure had been cranked up.
My fluid never got dirty or smelled bad but when the pan was dropped the filter had reddish-brown stuff on it. Rick installed an in-line filter to the transmission return line and when I picked it up it was shifting very smoothly.....

It doesn't lock at all now. Not even a little. Not only that but it started shifting very firmly again. Temps never got over 180* but hovered there. I am frustrated to hell. Could my TCC solenoid be the problem? What would I check next? I know it's not the tune, all was well with the same TCC tables for a long time, the only change is I set it NOT to lock at WOT but all the other settings are the same as before.

Could the higher trans temps (175-185*) be causing the harder shifting?
It's significantly harder and the drive-line CLUNKS!

Sounds like it could be the PWM valve off the TCC circuit letting some fluid by. Mine would just cycle the converter, lock unlock constantly. It would do it every second or two but it never did just not lock or have a soft engagement that could be overpowered. Do you have a shift kit or no? If thats what it is the transgo HD2 kit will fix it. I'm referring to my 99 silverado yada yada yada.

Why not just yank the whole thing off and have FLT freshen it up. I did that once and they did a great job.

It's a brand new FLT level 5....less than 500 miles on it. Has the HD2 kit. It does not even pretend to lock anymore. Can the contamination from the converter cause the TCC solenoid to fail? I have no clue about these things

Well in that case just get a box of tissues and start crying. I figured your FLT was older than that and needed some TLC after being raped by your little wieene roaster.

TCC solenoid gets my vote. mine did the same thing...er kinda... it could be a cut o-ring on the input shaft. Did you have the work done by a known good shop?

Yeah, the trans is built by FLT. Rick put in the converter. Thanks for the ideas guys. Keep them coming. Help is appreciated.
