Move fuel cell to truck bed?
#11
damn i wish i could find the pic. i think it was on fsc.com but not sure. a guy was building a show truck and showed his rolling frame it was blue with an ls1, bags, and the fuel cell.

I don't think there's room where the spare tire was for much of a tank unless it hung down below the roll pan. The best I can see is about 3 ft x 1 ft x 9" = about 15 gal (1 cubic foot = 7.48 gallons). Maybe I could get 38"x14x11 = about 25 gallon. I'm going to have to take another look. This would mean cutting the bed floor to put in a fuel pump access door and filler neck but that might be ok. Hmmm.
If I go back to putting it in the bed, 4.5 ft across the front, 15" high and 9" width (front of truck to back) would be about 31 gallons and would leave about 4" height for a filler neck, room to get the pump in and out without removing the tonneau, etc. Much easier than cutting the bed floor.

I got back under the back of the truck and measured things carefully. The best I can do is a tank that would be about 36x9x12 which yields about 16.8 gallons.
I may just move the stock tank to the front of the bed or I might just run the duals out the passenger side and me done with it. That might be kind of cool... certainly unusual to have to 4" oval baloney sliced SS pipes exiting in front of the passenger side wheel. I like it... kind of.

I was thinking of the samething, for traction. I was going to take out the stock tank, and put it in the bed right over the rear end. build a tunnel from the wheel wells straight across, it would cover the stock tank perfectly. You then could use the stock sending unit and pump assembly. It would look like one of those trucks with a body drop or those trucks with air bag setups tucking the wheels. They have a hump between the wheel wells in the bed. Do like a bed liner or somthing, to clean it up. Then I was looking at how far the tank sits already in the stock location, it looks like it would not be that much of a benifit. I figure it would benifit but how much? I dont know if it is worth it.

You would have equal weight distribution... an important factor when racing, and you could expidite fuel pump changes with a trick little access door in your "hump". If I decide to stay with the stock tank and move it to the bed I was figuring on a polished SS lift-off box around it.
The more I visualize the idea of two 4" ovalized polished SS pipes exiting on the passenger side the more I like it and it sure saves a lot of work/expense. Not ready to decide yet I guess.
