Default min. wheel stud thread

anyone know what the min. amount of wheel stud threads are needed to secure a wheel. I know the old rule of thumb used to be the diameter of the stud should = the length of threads. Is this still a good ROT?

I don't have a 2005 NHRA rule book... but I'm pretty sure they have a spec in there. That is what I would build to if it were me.

I'm pretty lucky that the H2 has long studs already. I do need to change the Vettes studs soon though. They are too short.

Found it....

Per NHRA... all wheel studs must project into the hex portion of the lugnut by a distance equal to the diameter of the stud.

A good rule of thumb is to have a stud that engages all the threads in an open ended lug nut. It's also good to use open ended lug nuts for verification.
