you got me man! i dont have a clue how the gov-loc works. ive heard of others complain when their units start to wear and not work properly...some complain of a clicking noise...

Unfortunately, I have had the expereince of breaking both the G80 and u-joints. 
Here is the carnage from my G80:

Aftermarket U-joints:


In my experience, the G80 did not make noise under deceleration or when re-applying the throttle. It made clunking noises when going around turns.
The u-joints made noise when letting off the gas (decelerating). The factory u-joints are not greaseable, so if they are making noise, you need to replace them. DO NOT buy greasable u joints. They are hollow in the inside and break easier than sealed. I believe factory u-joints are plenty strong and would not change them unless they were making noise.
Try greasing the slip yolk as well. Mine made a squeaking noise when it was dry.

I'll have to ask danny what my shift points are set at, but mine sees probably 6300 or so on a daily basis. and anywhere from 105-120 about 3 to 5 times a week.
