Hey guys, I blew up my trans last night. I pulled it from the truck today and discovered the front pump chewed up by the torque converter.





Instead of paying to have a stock type rebuild on my current trans. I'd like to see what my options are to order a performance oriented 4L60E type of trans, and how much $$$ would be involved. I like the the options of the FLT 4L60E-3, but that is extending my budget a bit. What would you guys suggest?

I think I'm going to give a PerformaBuilt level 2 a shot, it's priced right. No shipping, no core, good warranty. It's gotta be better than basically stock 60E I just took out

PerformaBuilt level 2 on order, I decided to go with a LT1 style trans with a new 2800rpm stall converter from Road Runner for a L31 5.7L truck. According to Frank @ PerformaBuilt the LT1 style trans will plug in and can be controlled by the LSx PCM... I figured the LT1 style 4L60E with the truck converter will work a ton better behind my SBC than trying to convert a LSx style trans to the older engine design.

On a side note, my cheap Spectre valve covers were leaking oil bad. So I decided to get some quality fabbed aluminum center bolt covers from CFR performance. They just arrived today, they look good but were missing the hold down hardware and they don't have the channel built in for the fel-pro blue centerbolt SBC gaskets, I guess I can glue (the right stuff, silicone) a set of perimeter bolts to them before bolting them down.

Hoping to revive tgis thread, how did that RR converter work with your setup? I've seen good reviews but still am on the edge of dropping thr coin

Since this thread I've gone through a few converters. I've learned that the smaller diameter the better. Large/OE diameter converters that have had the vanes bent for a stall just feel like crap on the street. From what I recall the RR was a good converter, didn't stand out as an outstanding feeling. I have also had a Monster torque converter and now I have a Dacco 10" 2800rpm, non-lock up with anti-ballooning plate. This most recent 10" is the best feeling with my combo. Mind you, I've gone away from lock up clutches and that could present a whole other set of needs.
