lol. From what ive seen on here air bags are the way to go.
Air bags are the best route, but for what the air bag setup would cost to install on the truck, the OP could simply invest in a small trailer and come out cheaper, and it would be easier to load. Thats my point!

Heh! What ever. And tongue weight can be adjusted.

Anyway. The guy asked and I like the bags. For what I do anyway. And if the bags are too much moola or don't carry enough, well do whatcha gotta do.

For towing or hauling heavy ATV's yes. For carring scrap iron? Not my bag!

You original post said that air shocks wouldn't handle the weight. They will, and they are a cost effective solution. Best solution no, but cost effective, and will do the job. Best solution would be, bigger truck, buy a trailer, hire a roll back to move them for you, or whatever you cup of tea may be.

sounds to me like ctcandy is posting honest facts. why does no one just admit when they are/were wrong. man up. anyways the heaviest atv or even SxS on the market that fit in a pickup are polaris's. The RZR only weighs in at 1000lbs btw......

It is indeed a 1/2 ton as is the GMC pickup. I wish i had been able to get a video of the Beast pulling that dozer chassis from where it had to come from. The drive was about a mile long with 1/3 of it being straight down hull at about a 30% incline and then 1/3 up the same slope back to the main road. The truck never dipped or wiggled. My partner was going to pull it with his Ford but the weight put his back bumper on the ground. (btw the chassis weighed more than 11,000 lbs)

The air bags were the first thing I put on it. My trailer weighs around 2500 pounds and without the bags the truck sagged with the empty trailer. I have an even bitgger set that I am I am going to install soon. They are off of a semi trailer. I bought them dirt cheap and havent had a chance to figure out how to mount them yet. The only reason I want to replace them smaller bags is that one of them caught a piece of shrapnal in the scrap yard and was mortally wounded.

Yeah loaded is one work for it. An added plus to the airbag setup is being able to pull the ball under the coupler and then just air up the bags to hook up. Makes it so much easier than cranking on the jack to get the tongue up and down.

These trucks are made for working, and working's what they do.

Would make an excellent song I think.

My truck has a topper on it so everything goes on a trailer. However, I did haul 1200 lbs of scrap computers in the bed a few weeks ago. That in addition to 300 lbs of topper and about 400 lbs of tools.

Aside from pulling an empty trailer, I think this is the lightest load I have ever pulled with this truck. Well, I did pull the lawn mower once.

I like the idea of air bags that way you can adjust per the load.
Set of air bags run 2-$250
Often when hauling the ATV I will also be pulling a 20' camper
