Default Limited slip Differentials

I was wondering what everyones opionon was on which limited slip differential to get. I am going to be putting it in a 90 gmc sierra, i beleive it is a 8.5" 10 bolt rearend. The truck is also an automatic. I was considering going with the auburn unit, but i figured id ask what everyone else preffered to run.

The Auburn isn't rebuildable. It works great until you get in a situation that only one tire is spinning and you smoke the clutch pack. It only takes one good slipping to basically render the limited slip useless. It being non-rebuildable is why a couple years ago Auburn started offering an exchange for your old one at a cheaper price when it wears out. I love my Detroit trutrac myself, no clutches to wear out and very smooth.

Id love to go with a full spool so i could always get the most power to the ground, however i know sometimes i will drive this truck and get out in the rain and thats why i dont want that. I had always looked at the eaton kit, but the prices on those are so steep. Has anyone else ran the Detroit truetrac setup, and if so pleae give your opinion on it.

I have a detroit locker and am very happy with it. You will have both wheels driving all the time unless turning. Still have to be careful in the rain. Not as seamless as the Eaton. For a 1500series platform(if that's what you have) they are both a little spendy

I have seen the eaton and trutrac for as little as $340 for the 8.5/8.6. The locker's that replace the spider gear assembly (lock right/powrtrax) run around $250(I think) but are much more harsh to drive than the Detroit Locker witch runs in the $450-500 ball park. I do not recommend the lock right/powrtrax for a daily driver and the detroit locker only if you are carful driving in the wet and can tollerate it. I have had all types of posi/limited slips over the years and speaking from experience you can't go wrong with the eaton or trutrac on a daily driver/ weekend hot rod. I prefer the trutrac above all.

Call Randy's Ring and Pinion, they can usually give you the best price.

That is where I got my Trutrac. They wanted $380 when I called and when I went to hang up the salesman asked why I wasn't going to purchase it then. I told him I had for $349 at justdifferentials.com. He said he could give it to me for $345.
