Lighter Wheel and tire combo.
I’m trying to find a lighter wheel and tire combo than what I have, I want either an 18 or 20 inch rim with a tire that’s in the 29 inch range. Ideally I just want for drag radials, and good looking rims to run all the time.
Anyone have any suggestions? |
Good luck with the wheel choice if you are looking to keep it economical. I have been researching ways to get wider rubber(295+, 28-29" height) all the way around on my truck which is going to require new wheels. Currently Forgestar, BC Forged and Brixton are at the top of my list for a 20x10/11 combo. I have found other custom forged 6lug options but they are $1000+ per wheel which is more than I can justify.
Being you want a drag radial, that really narrows your options to: 305/45/18 - wheel range = 9.5-(10.0)-11.5 Tire options: Nitto Nt05R, Nitto 555R, MT ET Street-R 305/35/20 - wheel range = 10-(11)-12 Tire options: Nitto 555R; MT ET Street SS 315/35/20 - wheel range = 10.5-(11)-12.5 Tire options: Nitto NT05R With the width of the above options, it may be difficult to get the fronts to tuck without rubbing which leaves... 275/40/20 - wheel range = 9.0-(9.5)-11 Tire: MT ET Street SS A 20x9.0 or 20x9.5 may be more easily found off the shelf with a tuck-able offset. (possible choices: Method, Black Rhino, Dub, Factory Reproductions, etc) |
I'm partial to the NNBS de-cladded 20" rims. I have a set, I can weigh one of them tonight if you want.
|
Are they somewhat light? Sure if you can please do. I am curious.
|
I was just about to mention them, they are pretty light for 20” wheels and thats just by feel from taking them on and off alot. tire selection adds majority of the weight and i only have 275/55s on them tho |
Good luck finding something sticky taller than 28"
|
If you can score a set of 18" or 20" old school Centerlines off craigslist or whatever, those are pretty damn light. I have a set of 20" Centerline Stingrays on my wife's SS and they are stupid light, especially compared to the 22" of the same wheel on my SS. Usually see prices of $600-$1000 a set, without tires, depending on size, style, and condition. (some of those designs were just butt ugly and aged poorly, but others are nice.) Watch out for repaired wheels. Any signs of aftermarket welding would be a dealbreaker for me; I've had wheels repaired and they just keep cracking later.

Declad 20", no tire or plastic cover or adhesive, weighs 40 pounds
|
Hmm. Ok thanks for the info.

305/45/18 should be around 29” tall and they make the 555R and pretty sure 05R. Also pretty sure they make those raceline renegades in 18x10. Also check out a company called vrock. Possibly the vr8 if I remember correctly |

My old truck with 295/45/18 front and 305/45/18 rear |
That looks good, I think I am gonna need something closer to 30” so I don’t run out of gear in 3rd.

You could always put some Welds on the truck and empty your bank account doing it for 20” sizes ;) |

Wow.. pretty heavy for a 20" wheel. A forged Centerline is closer to 25-30

The raceline renegade would be a great track only wheel for the simple reason that its too far offset to look the way you would want on a street vehicle. They are VERY light for an 18x10 though.

What about Bogart?

cast vs forged alum, im sure he knew forged wheels would be lighter than cast, but you pay for it..$$$$$$ Richard |
Keep in mind I am AWD so the plan is to run all the same size.

They aren't that heavy. I am looking for the stats my buddy got while running them.
Pat check out Graeme's build thread. Post 124 shows you the offset https://www.performancetrucks.net/fo...-536662/page7/ |
Found it.
https://www.performancetrucks.net/fo...egades-538992/ 25lbs a pop for the 18x10's. LIGHT!! They so have a lot of offset though. |
Cosmis Racing Xt-005r 20x9.5 - a set is ~$1500

Based on the website below they weigh 39# each. I have no idea if that is heavy or light for that size, just putting that info out there. It is not always easy to find weights since the mfg website rarely lists it
https://www.performanceplustire.com/...-discontinued/ 18 x 10 = "39 lbs" https://www.racelinewheels.com/p-748...e-6-black.aspx https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.per...90568699e7.png I don't believe that going from 17 x 9 to a 18 x 10, is only .6 lbs heavier. |
If you follow his link to Graeme's build, Graeme weighs them and they come out to 25# each. Probably more accurate than that website i found the info on
