I took every last part out just to get an idea what was inside and to get everything clean. I also wanted to check every part inside and out, but I have not gotten around to actually putting one back together
Yeah ive been thinking of buying a ATSG book. Tearing it downs sounds better to me. Then droping the trans while I lay on my back process that has to be done. Think ima buy the book and the monster rebuild kit. And try my hand at rebuilding my own tranny. Only part im worried about is the special tools ill need to do it myself...

Best thing you can do is document each part as it comes out. It does matter wich way things go inside. simply putting one of the bearings back wards can cause serious issues.

Also you might want to look into getting a few special tools to work on it.

I dont know the history behind your truck, was the engine or transmission ever removed? What year is your truck and what engine is in it. I have heard of the flywheel cracking on the 6.0's but the 5.3 and 4.8 use a different fly wheel. I have never heard or seen that on one of them.

Its a just a 4.8 that used to be blown. Im thinking the short time with the blower might have done it or losened the bolts.

Your noise seems to be crankshaft speed related, and sounds like converter bolts or flexplate. It's easy enough to get a look at the converter bolts, a little harder to see the flexplate bolts. I'd recommend not driving it until it's fixed, surely something is being damaged worse every time you start & run the engine. Just gonna cost you more money by putting it off.
