Default Jakes d1

Anyone using one of these? I was told that I would hate one in my truck, too hard to get it up to 3 after a launch. I think if I put in a aftermarket shifter it wouldn't be bad. Or I can spend another $500 and upgrade to the d3.

I run a D3. No complaints. Didn't want to have to deal with shifting out of 1st manually. Just beware, the D3 requires the transbrake to be activated for reverse to work. That may be enough to put some people off. I don't believe the d1 requires that.

You can wire your reverse lights to engage the D3, then reverse works normally.

I went with a latching button for reverse and a momentary for using the brake. I didn't like the reverse light hookup due to the fact every time you unlock the truck with the keyless entry, the reverse lights come on thus activating the transbrake. Just figured I wanted to keep the solenoid from getting more use than it had to. But yes, more work having to remember to hit the button after using reverse to turn off the transbrake.

I have D1's in my 80Es, but I installed a B&M Megashifter. Also ensure that you have your tune modified to prevent a forced upshift if you happen to back off the throttle for any reason while in D1 and over 2X mph as this will engage the brake.

Any pics on how you mounted the shifter? Is that a ratchet shifter or gated?
