Default Identifying a 4l80e

I picked up a 4l80e cheap the yard only knew it was out of a 2001 "van" and maybe behind a 4.3L, I thought the worst, like a workhorse chassis, and I thought I might be getting a 4l80e with bolt on parking brake, but when it showed up looks to be a standard 2wd version with a bolt on yoke, which is good. Any telling what exactly it came out of? The sticker didnt hold up, but the ID tag is still riveted on. It seems to measure 31.5inches overall bell to tailshaft hosuing, the tailshaft housing is about 5.5 inches. How does it compare to a 2wd silverado 4l80e? Worth building up? Thanks...

Its out of a 2001 P series truck with a 5.7L and a 4:10 diff. The unit has 4 pinion planets with the early large OD roller clutch. IMO a good unit for what you are looking to do. I was not able to verify the output shaft. However I believe it has an oring on the shaft. So its not the long spline version found in most 2wd units without the bolt on yoke. HTH Vince

Hell of a answer Thanks! If it does have the o-ringed output shaft I heard there's slip yokes you can use, but some don't reccomend them? If I got it all tore down, I might as well swap in the right long spline shaft? The tailshaft housing should be the right length still?

Yes the extension housing will be fine. I like the long spline output myself but the oring style will be fine as well. Some guys will actually machine the oring style and it will accept all slip yokes. Best of luck with your project.
