So as far as the hoses go the two pressure hoses are the ones that can easily be found at any parts store and the low pressure hose is the dealer only one? If that is the case is there anything really special about that hose other than the bend in the top? Because it sure doesn't look like it's worth what the dealer wants for it to me.

Nope, nothing special as far as I can tell. Felt just like a coolant hose. I dont know the heat/oil rating of heater hose, but that may work. Size is 3/8" I think.

Good to know. I'm sure there is a rubber hose made rated to handle the heat and oil. Shouldn't be any different than the rubber hose that comes with transmission coolers. One would just have to be careful to install it in a way that it won't get kinked.

Guess I'll be buying myself a hydroboost system as soon as I get some other things paid for!

Thanks for the write up and nice pictures!

For anyone looking for hoses the numbers to search for from the parts store are:

80338 and 92092

There were OBS trucks with hydroboost too. Just usually diesels from what I have seen. You still can use your steering box and pump. These Hydroboosts have been around for a long time even before your body style. I have seen them on late 70's early 80's trucks Diesels dont have vaccuum to run a regular booster so thats what they had.

the booster is just a pump that pushes a rod on the master cylinder, it never touches brake fluid.

the unit itself will work fine with any mastercylinder or pump, as long as it physically adapts (fittings, MC bore, etc). the position of the holes on the firewall and the brake pedal i dont know about.
