Default How to tell if Converter is locking?

noob question sorry guys. But how do you tell if it is locked or unlocked? How do you "feel" it doeing this while your driving or what signs tell you its doing it?

If you are cruising with steady throttle and the converter is 'locked' and you tap the brakes you will see the rpms increase and then decrease as it locks again. When the converter locks it will feel almost like it is going into another gear.

Feels like a 4-5 shift to me....if we had 5 spds. Also noticeable drop in RPMs.

Yeah watch the RPMS with a brake tap, up right after and drop again soon afterward. With aftermarket converters you can feel it. With my PI its like another gear shift.

I check by tipping into the throttle a little bit (maybe 10% or so). If the RPM's jump without speeding up, the converter is unlocked. If the RPMs increase in direct correlation to speed, it's locked.
