Default Help - tranny drain plug

I finally grew the ***** to change the tranny fluid (after hearing all the horror stories about the 4L60's dying after that) and I rounded the drain plug trying to remove/drain the fluid. is there a reason, or am I retarded? BTW, that bolt is super tight, WTF??

on a side note, I have an idea or two, anyone got a surefire method for removing this bolt?

If it is rounded, just leave it alone, and unbolt the entire pan. We have a hard time with them also, but it will come out with an impact gun and a newish 15mm socket...

I just used an impact gun on mine and it came out fine. I think it is a self tightening bolt...

I rounded mine off as well...

I ended up dropping the whole pan to change the fluid anyway... its ok though.. my tranny died 3 days after the change. (I figured while I had the pan down I would go ahead and install a shift kit.. and while under the truck I decided to install the servo's..

yup same here. I installed my tranny temp sensor when I did the stall, shift kit and servos, so atleast I can pull the sensor and drain it that way.

well, I was gonna drop the pan and change the filter as well, but in order to do that,
I have to remove the ORY, and to do that, I have to drop the tranny crossmember. I guess a deep pan is in order now.

I rounded it with an impact gun, that damn bolt is so shallow, theres hardly any contact area.

I think I am gonna cut a slot into the head of the bolt and get it out with the flat head breaker

I've got a TCI pan and it clears, or did while I had it.

Put a pipe wrench on it and try that.
