The V8 Ford Explorer 8.8 is the one you want. It's 59" from mounting surface to mounting surface.

3.73 is the common ratio with the V8 Option

Since the axle tubes are slightly different length, some people an extra axle and tube from another unit and make the lenghts the same, however it's not mandatory.

The spring mounts are about 1/2 to 3/4" off. You can use "as-is" or cut them off and re-weld them in the correct locations.

Since the axle is wider than a 2WD unit, you'll also have to go to a deeper offset wheel in order to keep them under the fenders.

The lug pattern is different (ford vs chevy), so you'll either have to redrill the hubs for the correct pattern or use a deep offset wheel with the Ford bolt pattern.

If you are using rear wheel antilock brakes, the sensors aren't compatable on the Ford axle.

Might be simpler to find an 8.5" chevy S10 axle assembly.

This will give you a good illustration of what is required: http://www.s10forum.com/forum/f13/ge...-go-in-341212/
