Gears for my DD poll
#13
The 6l80 does not need as much gear thanks to the deeper first gear. When I switched to 3.73s from 3.08 my city mileage went up but my hwy went down. Your turning a larger tire than me but I'm glad I didn't go 4.10 and sometimes wish I had 3.42s on longer 80mph trips.

Thanks for the input, I don't see very many guys on here that have or had the 3.08s. I feel my hwy mileage will go up, 6th gear going 80 is only good for going downhill or really flat with no wind, in my truck. Maybe I'm being over dramatic here but I didn't like the 3.42s on my old ECSB 5.3 4l60 either. I think 3.73 might be perfect but 4.11 sooo tempting. And with most of my driving being in town, it might be worth the hwy rpm sacrifice. It can be argued both ways, I just with I had the opportunity to test drive them both to help with the decision.

Hmmm.. 10 votes for 3.73 and 12 votes for 4.11s, I guess it doens't really matter. Still on the fence but this week I'm leaning 3.73. I can save $530 in parts by using the 3.73 OEM gears that are in the garage, they came from an 07 NNBS Sierra with 60k on the clock. My highway RPM will be right at 2000 and if I go to a smaller tire in the future (doubtful but won't go bigger) then 3.73 will be better for that also.

I say go with the gears 3.73s that you bought from me... That will probably be the best all around gear for DD and performance with your 6L80e... Its gonna be a huge jump from the 3.08s
