Gears going in
#1
well i finally quit procrastinating and ordered the gears this morning and scheduled the install for friday. decided on the 3.90s. was swinging between 3.73, 3.90, and 4.10s, but with some of the highway driving i do, i think 3.90 is a good compromise. what type of gains would you guys expect with the 3.90s over my 3.42s?
BTW - will be ordering the stall this week as well......

got the gears in friday and have to say it definately woke the truck up. it bumped the rpm up about 300 or so for the same speed. 65mph now is 2100 instead of 1800. haven't noticed any difference in mileage yet. if anything it is slightly better. can't wait for the stall to go in.

That may depend on your tire size and what was done in the PCM to correct the speedometer reading. If both trucks started out the same @ 1800 rpm the one with 3.73 gears should read 1962 rpm at the same speed and the one with 3.9 gears should rear 2052 rpm. So you should see about a 90 rpm differance between the two gearsets at that given speed.
