gearing for a 96 on 35's
#1
i just picked up a 96 silverado extended cab long bed 4x4 with the vortec 5.7 and a NV3500 5 speed trans.
its got a 6 inch pro comp lift on 35" mud terrains, but my downfall, the guy was still running the stock 3.73's
this truck is such a dog on the freeway. ive got to keep in at NO LESS than half throttle to keep it a steady 60-65MPH on a slightly windy day. they say higher gear ratio = better MPG, but i think in my case i need lower gearing to up the RPMs more into the power range so i dont have to keep my foot in it....
this sound right?
what do you guys think, 4.11's?? 4.56??
keep in mind this truck has a 5 speed manual trans.

I'm not sure how the nv3500 is geared but since you say 3.73's make it a dog, i'd go with 4.56's.
I'm pretty sure you have an 8.5 bolt so you could always compromise and do 4.30 gear. Motive makes some and I believe Yukon does too.

sounds good. im going more for better mpg. i mean just going from common sence... close to half throttle at fairly low speeds, for highway speeds that is is definately sucking the gas.... so 4.56's sounds like a plan.
thanks
btw. do you guys think a CAI is worth it for the sole purpose of gas savings? its also got a flowmaster 40.. which is definately going, sooner than later..
