Default Gear whine???

I got a set of Richmond 4.10s installed about a month ago and I have noticed that at freeway speeds there is a very high shrill 'tone' that comes at light throttle. I dont want to call it whine just yet..

It comes on at specific freeway speeds and I had to get a second opinon that it was even there and I wasnt hearing things. The shop that did the install went for a ride with me and said there was no gear whine and I have been told that Richmond gears just make noise.

What do you guys think??

I have also heard that Richmond gears do make noise. I went with OEM gears for that very reason.

My 3.90 richmonds have made that same noise on the highway for almost 2 yrs now. No problems out of them and I have put 30+k on them.

Go with OEM gears and they won't whine.

My Yukon 3.90s don't whine at all. I have heard people say that Richmonds whine.

I'd call mine more of a steady subtle whistling sound. I believe Richmonds are cut differently than other gears, for strength rather than quietness.
