Question Gear swap

I want to move up to some 4.10's or most likely some 3.90's.
How hard is it to do the swap your self? Dose it just mean taking off your differential cover and swapping them out, or is there much more to it? Would you suggest taking it on or taking it to the shop and spending around a grand?

What gears do you have now?

If you have 3.73 and you are 4x4. I wouldn't waste the money unless you go to 4.30's the difference isn't much and will reduce you MPG as well.

I don't think you will gain much for the cost of the swap even on a 2wd unless you have 3.42's. Just get a Limited slip or locker! And have someone do it.

What he said.
4.10s will rival everything else you have done to it.
Get a Detroit True Trac while you are in there.

i agree with above

i went from 3.23's to 4.10's and i dropped a second off my quarter mile times and picked up a few MPG's

best mod ever

also, pay a shop, your dealing with tolerances down to a thousandth of an inch

I thought 4.10's were supposed to drop your MPG by 2 or 3 miles. That’s why i was thinking about the 3.90's better than 3.75's but not as extreme as the 4.10's.
How much should i expect to pay??
