Default Gear Swap

I was wondering how much i would gain from swapping my 3.42 to 3.73. Also how much will it knock quarter time. How much mileage does it take also? Thanks 99LoweredSierra

What size tires you run? I swapped the same gears on 265/17 (32") and like it. IMO 3.42 is too tall a gear for these trucks! You really wont see a huge difference, maybe 300 rpm is all on the hiway. Milage is pretty much the same, maybe better around town.
If I had a 2wd i would go even more, to what is it?...3.90.

My rear end specialist (no, not my proctologist) gave me a chart with different tire sizes and gears that showed rpm's @ 1:1. Check with yours as it will really help you pick the right gears.

I don't think you'll see too much difference from that switch.

i agree thats not much of step up. I replaced the 3.42s for 4.10s in a buddys truck & it made it get outa the hole faster.
