Default G80 Problems!!

i have an 03 silvy std cab short box 1500 5.3 ls 2wd.... the rear keeps locking and unlocking in turns and makes a terrible noise doing so....i'm thinking just replace the whole rear since i have no idea how to rebuild one (taking it to someone is not an option... i like to do my own work!) but i figure what the hell if i rebuild it myself than i'll know how to do it! now heres my question... has anyone else had this problem? is it an easy fix? (as compared to rebuilding a motor) what parts do i need, what to look out for, can it still be driven like this or will i totally f@#$ it up? can i just replace the factory locker with an aftermarket one? what am i getting myself into? thanx for all your help it will be greatly appreciated!

If you are going to do it yourself I sure hope you can find someone that knows what they are doing to help. While setting up gears is not rocket science it can be a pain to get right and if you don't get it right you will be cursed with the dreaded gear howl or worse.

Did what? What suzukibruce had happen? Or what BOSS302 & myself had? Cause for me, my 89 has movement inside rear (front/back, side-side & up/down. Have over 176k miles, prolly original rear, but who knows? If so, its due. And, snapped input shaft in 2, destroying my built trans. My 89 showed me how strong a 700r4/4L60e is 1 bone stock, 2built. - the G80 is better by some measure. I hope on the 04 I can get Eaton before I find out. I want a FLT 1st tho.

Suzukibruce, any news?
