Default front leaf spring mount drop??

i see they make a 2" lowering bracket for the front leaf spring mount (belltech 6513) $176.50 for a little piece of stamped metal seems ridiculous. can you not just take the factory mount. cut the top of the bracket off so it doesnt hit the bed and move the factory mount up? i know stock uses 6 rivets to hold it in but 4 grade 8 bolts and possibly a few welds it should be good right? has anyone utilized the stock mount and just cut the top off or does everyone just buy the mount kit? just went from factory 20s and 32" tires to gmc 17s and 28" tires and have way to much wheel gap. any info would be great! thanks

Or you can do what i did. Move the axle to the top of the leaf spring the. Lower the rear mount down 2 inches. Total cost $15 for spring perches, $10 is a foot of 2x2 box tubing and some bolts.

I'd have to get a smaller shackle to do that. I'm not sure what drop is on the truck already or what brand/parts were used to lower it. I'd like to lower the rear 3" and front 2". I believe the front is just a spring. Looks like stock spindles and the upper and lowers are stock. Was gonna run a 2" djm lower control arm and was thinking about moving the front mount up. Looks like the bottom 4 rivet holes might line up with the four holes in the frame

Moving the front mount upwards your going to have issues getting the bolt in to hold the spring. You will have to drill a hole into the side of the frame rail.

You still have to drop the fuel tank as well.. If I could do it again I'd do what Corey did.. I had to do some cutting to make my assassin bars work..
