I was going around a big truck that wasn't moving and hit some gravel, tires spun then got pavement and boom. I was probably only going 20-30 mph when it happened.

The first one is the one on the bottom with the twisted splines. It is also cracked thought the oil hole in the bearing in the middle of the shaft. It broke while brake stalling to 8psi for a 4x4 launch. The top one broke at the LS1truck.com race day at SAR last Feb on the 1-2 shift at 13psi. The only thing I can think of why they where such clean breaks is they are GM cryo treated shafts for 08 TBSS 4x4's 4l70e.

Truck got the 4l80e after that. Oh and that 4l65e tranny those broke in, is currently in a 408 NA F-body running 10's with nothing more then swapping a 2wd shaft in it after the second 4x4 one broke,

Yes, I feel blessed it has held up so well for me, I know I really need an 80e in there but $ and time but mostly $, ya know. I do have the hardened input/output shafts.

Lets hope you didn't do one of these:

I broke it going from a cloverleaf on the freeway to the next freeway, gave it some gas to get out of the way of a semi, and hit the rev limiter.

My guess is input drum or shaft.

That stinks, you try to be cautious and do the right thing and still end up screwing the pooch I'm definitely glad that I'm springing for the Level7 with the billet shafts, I've seen more and more pics of trashed shafts...
