Hey guys. I have a NP233 transfer case...new process which as we know is now new venture. Its out of a 97 blazer. Push button 4wd. I am sticking the tranny in a Geo and I need the a passenger drop front axel. I am NOT using the vacuum switch in the case so can I block it off and flip the case? Any other ports I need blocked off? It may not work but I am going to attempt it. I can't get any money out of it so if it destroies it I'm not at a loss really. I know a Dana 300 will fit it with a kit but this is a low budget project. Any other problems foreseen?? Not lubricating right? Thanks guys!

Personally I think what your doing is nuts but that's just me. Not even sure why I'm making this post but here goes!!! In the shop I work in we do a lot of transfer cases. After I read this thread last night I made it a point to ask our builder today to see if what I thought was right. You have two issues here that I can see. The first is the vent for the case. In all transfer cases the vent is located in the top portion of the case. This is needed so the case obviously can breathe. With out this leaks will more than likely happen.
The second issue is this case has a lubrication pump. If you flip the case it will suck air and we guessed that you will probably see a failure in about 500 miles. Now if you wanted to get creative you could change the vent location and also the pump pickup. The vent is a no brainer IMO however the pump pickup is going to take some work. Danny our builder felt you could take the pickup and put it in the lowest location where the case would now sit. We kind of kicked around a couple of idea's with the use of epoxy and some pop rivets. You would have to secure it some way so the pickup and lube tube do not get into the chain.
The one issue he felt you were going to have is with the lube tube that goes from the pump to the pickup. He said that you were probably going to have to get some steel line and make your own tube and then attach it to both components. The pump has on oring on it but the pickup side is a pressed fit. You will need to make sure to seal that end to the pickup and also that the pump side oring seals well. You will need to make sure to attach the tube to the case some how so it does not interfere with the chain. Epoxy and some brackets would be my suggestion. To attach the brackets I would probably use pop rivets and then epoxy the inside and outside of the case so it doesn't leak. I hope this answers some of your questions and the best of luck to you!

OK thanks Vince. I'm going to try it. All the scrap yards will only give me scrap weight for it. So if it fails I'm not loosing any trade value. I think a Dana 300 will fit this and have the right side case. And maybe a Colorado tcase if I remember right but I do not know if they will bolt up.
