How are strong are the factory OEM gears?

factory gears IMO are good. i beat the crap out of mine all the time and i can still tow with them. plus they are quiet.

I'd be worried about the tranny first. And the factory gov-lock (G80) should be chucked if that's what you have back there.

There is very little strength difference between any quality gears. They all use the same 8620 steel, although the qality of the steel varies. Generally Italian and US made gears are the best. I would say that the OE gears are as strong as anything out there.

if your planning on getting a set... stay away from richmond.... ive heard they like to make noise..... I went with strange, and theres obsolutly no noise....
