Flat side down and fat side of shim facing engine side. Hopefully this staightens out your concerns, if not, not to be rude, but go pay to have it done.

so if the angle is too high, shims fat side front will be the answer and if the angle is too low then fat side to the rear?

theres no way im paying to have the 20$ shims put on, just making sure when i put the shims on they are going to correct direction because i dont want to snap my carrier bearing. the whole time i have been thinkin fat side to the engine but everyone elses ideas have made me second think myself. but i think im just gonna say screw it and do it. shouldnt take that long or be that hard at all

Do you have the carrier bearing relocator bracket?

no i dont. just the shackles. i broke my carrier bearing once about 5 months ago and it was only holding on by about half of a bolt...it was spinning and slapping on my exhaust pipes like crazy. almost dropped out of the bottom of the truck. i dunno what caused it though cuz i have had these shackles for at least 2 years and had never had trouble.

The carrier bearing relocator bracket will help straighten out the pinion angle along with the shims.
It would be cheap insurance.

2004, i understand that and i personally believe that too but colby and others are trying to say that fat end goes to the back. my personal belief is what you think, just trying to hear the other poeple justify their thoughts
