Electric parking brake and caliper K2XX
#1
Has anyone tried installing the 2019 and up rear caliper with integrated parking brake and stepper motor on a hot rod truck or a swap into an older truck with a newer rear end?

Haven't heard of anyone doing it yet, but it seems like it would be fairly straightforward. The only catch I think would be proper activation/deactivation, as I'm assuming some module controls the stepper motor to fully engage the brake, then release it, at the push of a button. I'd be willing to bet the basic operation is similar to a window motor in that a simple polarity swap is what runs the stepper in or out. A retro install without any module hacking might consist of a simple momentary rocker switch (like an early gmt400 window switch) and relay setup and you would just hold the switch until the brake engaged, then later hold it the other direction until released. Would take getting the "feel" of how long it takes either direction but a lot simpler than wiring up a module to do it for you like OEM. I suspect it would be trivial for someone to come up with a circuit for a retrofit fully functioning like OEM, but liability concerns might make it sketchy to release to the public.

I think we talked about this when talking over in the 6 piston PPV brakes.
Someone mentioned that it was a 12v activate then you lose 12v then reactive on with 12v. I think a switch would be easy like what Richard said
@someotherguy did you change your name? I swear it was something else previously.

But seriously, no, been using this handle since around 1997 or so? There are a few other "some other guys" but they're not me; they're just.. those other guys.Richard

AAAAAAAAlright. Ran 12 volts to one side and it held, swapped polarities and it released. I'd say this is a winner for the swapped axle guys who don't want to run a parking brake.
