Default e-brake light and auto headlight problem(I searched...)

My dad has my old 2000 1500 RCSB and has had a bit of bad luck with it. The brake light stays on even with the e-brake released and the auto headlights no longer work. Is this 2 seperate issues or is there a sensor on the e-brake pedal that controls both? I searches for the problem but didnt really get anywhere. Thanks.

Sounds like the same issue. If the e-brake is applied (or if the truck thinks that it's applied), the auto headlights will not work. Fixing that should also fix your headlight problem.

Thanks a ton, Thunder. I thought that would be the case but with the truck 5hrs away, it was hard for me to go ahead and dig in and see for myself. Thanks again.

If the brake fluid is low, the "brake" light will come on...or if the sensor in the master cyl reservoir is stuck or faulty. Your pop's problem could be as simple as topping off the brake fluid. If the fluid is low, check and see if the brakes are worn (as the brake pads wear, the fluild level in the master res will go down). Check for leaks as well...if all is OK then top off the fluid and your good to go.

Thunder is correct, if the BCM sees this light on, it will think that the e-brake is depressed and the auto lights will stay off.

Thanks guys. At this point, he has it taken apart and has unplugged the lamp switch and everything seems to be ok so far. I know that now when the brake is on, the light wont light up but other than that, will it have any other effects? Sorry for the noob question but again, I would love to be working on this but Im not where the truck is, haha.
