Did you specifically ask them if they could make you one in aluminum? I could see why they would decline if so.
They didn't even offer to make you a 1-piece steel unit? Or did you not want a steel shaft?
Are you the only one that has done this 80E swap in a newer model crew cab?
Maybe the the tranny nose is too short. The tranny mount might be further back, but I bet the tail is still shorter than the 65E's.
Sorry to hear you are having trouble with this. Did you ever think of using one of FLT's built level 5 tranny's? It would have been plenty strong for your application. I know it's a bit late for that now. Then again, it might not be...

My stock tranny measures 30 3/4" the new one is 32 3/16.

I asked for an aluminum and they just cant make it...they also wont make steel that long they said it will flex or bend.

I am considering doing a LFT level 5 but with the addition of the cam im putting in and another tune im worried it wont last much longer either.

Distance from the tailshaft to the axle is the same on his CC as an EC. Someone has done this swap before Im sure.

I would think so as well, but ex cabs have 2 piece shafts.

I spoke to Chuck at FLT about this as well. You will pretty much have the same power as me when you add the cam.
The current level 5 tranny will handle 500-520RWHP. You will be close, but probably not quite 500 RWHP. That would be equivalent to about 650 hp at the fly. I think you would be fine.
Plus, "IF" you can wait, Chuck has a few more strengthened components to go into his level 5 tranny's to increase the HP/TQ capacities.
You think you have waited.......I've had all these go fast goodies sitting in my garage for 6 months now.... They are still sitting! Even the stuff I have from you gets to just sit!
Hope the best for you.

Jim
