Sorry I am posting this in the GM section but i figured that if i post it in the dodge section i wouldnt get the right info. My father in law is fixing to buy a dodge and He is wondering if the tranny they use for the diesel trucks is as crappy as the gas trucks or if there is a diffrence like the 4l60e and 4l80? I have heard alot about dodges trannys and they are crap and have like a 20% to 25% hp lose due to the drive train and go out alot. Thanks in advance!

Yes both units are very similar if they are the 46re or 48re units. When built right they work well. From the factory I swear they built in defects. The diesel unit uses some stronger parts and also more clutches. But it's still a DODGE LOL!!!!
Dodge is also using what is called a 45rfe. Not a bad trans but still has issues like anything else. IMO get the extended warranty.
