Question Difference bwtween the L33 and LS4

I would like to know what are the difference between the two motors?

Also could the aluminum block be bored?

Thanks in advance.

I thought the aluminum blocks have a steel sleeve in them... Boring them out could be a problem depending on how thick the sleeve is...

I remember reading an article from a 2007 engine masters mag that had a 383 build up using a L33 block that had been bored out to 3.905 and 4" stroke crank short block built by Shafiroff Racing. As long as you have the bores sonic tested for thickness that will tell you how big you can go.

I'd think it has a different crank but what do I know.

Calm down Scott... I have never said that you don't know anything.

it does have a different crank.

Why are you even bothering with an L33 though? Do LQ4 and forget about it. Cheaper and way more power under the curve.

I came across a LS4 block on ebay for 400 bucks and I would like to do a build up, I was hopping to get a LQ from mangled but he is not going to get rid if it now. I would love to get a LQ4 or 9.

dude, check craigslist. I've seen running very high mileage 6.0s sold as a core for $300. I would not bother with an aluminum block if you're planning on boring it out. If one of those sleeves cracks, you're screwed.

I know, that wasn't directed towards you (or anyone else for that matter). Just stating I had no concrete knowledge that they were different, just assuming.
